From January 24-February 17 and April 15-28, 2016, Philadelphia-based artist Michelle Angela Ortiz was in Havana, Cuba, for Meridian’s Community Engagement through the Mural Arts exchange sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Michelle Angela Ortiz is a visual artist and community arts educator who uses her art as a vehicle to represent people and communities whose histories are often lost or co-opted. For this project, Ortiz worked closely with local artists and community members in Havana to create a public mural, called “Somos Regla,” in a community courtyard in the borough of Regla.
