From July 16 - 21, 2025, Meridian led a Global Insights Delegation to Osaka, Japan, immersing participants in the dynamic environment of Expo 2025 and the surrounding city. The program provided a unique perspective on how World Expos serve as platforms for cultural diplomacy, innovation, and international collaboration.
Meridian's Global Insights Delegations, which include recent trips to India and Portugal, provide participants with firsthand context of Meridian’s mission of strengthening U.S. engagement with the world through the exchange of people, ideas, and culture.
Delegates attended the USA Pavilion National Day festivities, where they met with presidential delegation members and observed firsthand how exhibitions and performances bring American innovation and culture to life on the global stage. As the premier cultural partner of the USA Pavilion, Meridian played a central role in shaping the visitor experience by recruiting and deploying a roster of American artists and performers to engage with Expo audiences. These cultural performances are designed not only to entertain, but also to strengthen understanding and connection between the United States and international audiences.
Beyond the Expo, participants explored Osaka’s vibrant cultural and economic landscape. From historic landmarks to contemporary urban development, the delegation gained insights into how Japan balances tradition with progress, and how this balance shapes its role in global dialogue.
Throughout the trip, the delegation engaged with Japanese counterparts, including journalists from the Yomiuri Shimbun, Meridian IVLP exchange program alumni, and representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Osaka Prefecture, to exchange perspectives on shared priorities.
Immersive cultural experiences and participation in Expo 2025 further underscored the importance of people-to-people ties and set the stage for continued collaboration in strengthening the U.S.–Japan relationship.
The Osaka delegation highlighted how World Expos provide unparalleled opportunities for exchange, innovation, and cultural storytelling. By curating cultural performers and guiding participants through this high-profile moment in international engagement, Meridian reaffirmed its mission to connect leaders, ideas, and cultures worldwide. This visit underscored how cultural diplomacy can serve as a bridge between nations, fostering collaboration, creativity, and mutual respect, and strengthening existing economic and political relationships.
