On September 15, 2026, Meridian International Center hosted its fall Welcome to Washington reception at the historic Meridian House, formally welcoming 14 newly arrived ambassadors to Washington’s diplomatic community. The signature gathering connects newly arrived Chiefs of Mission with leaders across Washington, building relationships that can strengthen bilateral cooperation and create new channels for engagement.  

Meridian welcomed Her Excellency Constância Adelina Gaspar, Ambassador of the African Union; His Excellency Basile Ikouébé, Ambassador of the Congo; His Excellency Jakub Kulhánek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic; His Excellency Hannes Hanso, Ambassador of Estonia; His Excellency Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo, Ambassador of Indonesia; His Excellency Magzhan Ilyassov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan; His Excellency Edil Baisalov, Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan; His Excellency Patrick Hemmer, Ambassador of Luxembourg; His Excellency Marco Micallef, Ambassador of Malta; His Excellency Wilbard Hellao, Ambassador of Namibia; Her Excellency Aissatou Clemence Baré, Ambassador of Niger; His Excellency Roelf Meyer, Ambassador of South Africa; His Excellency Marlon Mohamed-Hoesein, Ambassador of Suriname; and His Excellency Esen Aydogdyyev, Ambassador of Turkmenistan.  

In his remarks, Meridian CEO David Bohigian recognized the newly credentialed ambassadors and the work ahead as the Chiefs of Mission advance cooperation between their countries and the U.S. The reception was co-hosted by bp America as part of Meridian’s Diplomacy at 250 campaign commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.  

For newly arrived ambassadors, establishing relationships across Washington is an essential first step toward effective engagement in the United States. Through Welcome to Washington, Meridian provides an early platform for those connections, helping diplomats build networks that can support dialogue, deepen bilateral ties and advance cooperation throughout their tenure.
