Erica Ginsberg joined the Professional Exchanges Division after direct experience with international exchange programs in a variety of capacities. She had worked for the U.S. Department of State as a Program Officer with the International Visitor Leadership Program’s On Demand (then Voluntary Visitors), and as an Assigning Officer in the Office of Language Services. She also worked for several years in State’s Office of Global Educational Programs and has accompanied IVLP participants as an International Visitor Liaison. More recently, she co-founded and led a non-profit film arts organization, Docs In Progress, which is devoted to the support of documentary filmmakers in the Washington DC area and beyond. Erica is herself a documentary filmmaker whose past works include Creative Feds (highlighting the experiences of federal workers who moonlight as musicians) and Crucible of War (about postwar life in the Balkans). In her spare time, she is currently producing California USA (which looks at the lives and dreams of people who live in small towns across the United States that are named California). She holds a B.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University and an M.A. in Film and Video from American University. As part of these programs, she studied abroad at Trinity College in Ireland and FAMU (Film Academy) in the Czech Republic.
