Through a film competition sponsored by the U.S. Embassy Cairo, Meridian International Center organized a two-week trip for the winners of the “Untold Heroes” film competition. Meridian hosted not only the winners of this competition, but also the subjects of the films, which included a teacher from Alexandria, several activists looking to quell violence in Egypt, and an illiterate businesswoman from Cairo. The participants were given the chance to come to Washington, DC and see the Presidential Inauguration, as well as visit New York, NY and the Sundance Film Festival. This cultural exchange allowed filmmakers and film subjects to gain a better understanding of American life and culture, as well as giving filmmakers the opportunity to premiere their films for an American audience.were able to expand their program knowledge and goals for the future in furthering relations between U.S. embassies and the country of Chile.
