In July 2024, a delegation from Israel immersed themselves in U.S. climate policy and efforts to combat the climate crisis, engaging in meaningful dialogues on renewable energy advancements. Their visit included key meetings with NOAA and the EPA, highlighting U.S. actions to protect public health and the environment. The group witnessed innovative technology in San Francisco, where Austin Liu of All Power Labs showcased biochar production, a safer and more effective alternative to fertilizers that eliminates soil contamination and toxic runoff. A visit to the University of Iowa’s Hydroscience and Engineering Department sparked enthusiasm, especially discussions on cutting-edge water supply research. The delegation also explored renewable energy solutions at the University of Iowa Power Plant, where sources like oat hulls, Miscanthus grass, wood chips, and green energy pellets are used for heating and cooling the university campus. In Orlando, the group observed solar panel and energy storage experiments at the Florida Solar Energy Center and visited the Orlando Utilities Commission, which showcased innovative renewable energy solutions, including solar panels on top of ponds and electric vehicle charging stations.
Throughout their journey, the group not only learned from experts but also experienced American culture, including a visit to the Amish village of Kalona. One participant even caught a home run at a Nationals baseball game—adding a fun, memorable twist to an insightful visit.
