PAYLP 2023 Mini-Grant Highlights – Burkina Faso

The Meridian PAYLP Team is proud to highlight a Mini-Grant project led by PAYLP Summer 2023 alumni Sidonie and her country cohort, Blandine, Abdoul, and Jérémie, from Burkina Faso. Sidonie’s project “Clean School” sought to prevent plastic waste in high school where she is a teacher. From December 2023 to March 2024, the PAYLP alumni team hosted four clean-up days to engage with 2,500 students and over 100 teachers at the school. Sidonie credits PAYLP’s leadership skills for the project’s success as she and the team utilized these skills to effectively recruit student and teacher volunteers. Demonstrating this success, a physics and chemistry class at the school will be developing a project to recycle the plastic waste collected during the project. Sidonie’s advice for future PAYLP participants is to fully engage in the work and set an example for the community.
