From September 8 to September 27, 2014 Hip Hop artists Wanda Candelario and Deena Clemente (Dancers), Charyse “Mahogany Jones” Bailey (MC), Marc Bayangos (DJ), and Russell “DJ Plainview” Sticklor (Beatmaker) traveled to Bosnia and Herzegovina & Montenegro as part of the Next Level Program.
In Podgorica, Montenegro, the team ran a series of Hip Hop workshops at a local Roma-majority school. In Sarajevo, Bosnia, the artist-educators held workshops and performances in conjunction with the Juventa Youth Theatre Festival, during which they worked with 45 theater students from across the former Yugoslavia. Following the Juventa Festival, the Next Level Team conducted a program with local dancers and musicians at the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR). Throughout their time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the artist-educators held outreach programs at three of Sarajevo’s dance centers as well as a local orphanage.
Team Bosnia and Herzegovina & Montenegro is part of a larger Next Level cohort of American MCs, DJs, beatmakers, and Hip Hop dancers seeking to create global community through Hip Hop culture.
