MCCD sent Ms. Christine Kuhn, a Kentucky-based artist, to the Democratic Republic of the Congo from November 17 - December 10, 2014, for the first mural arts exchange. Ms. Kuhn collaborated with community members to create public murals at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa; Matumaini, an all-girls orphanage in Kinshasa; the newly opened American Shelf in Matadi; and the Athénée d’Ibanda, a public school in Bukavu, where she also produced a large-scale painting for the Panzi Foundation. Ms. Kuhn made multiple media appearances on local television, newspapers, and radio stations, including the United Nations’ Radio Okapi, which has the most listeners throughout the country.
