On Tuesday, February 12, 2013, Meridian and ITVS hosted a screening and discussion of Education, Education, as part of the Global Perspective Film Series. In advance of the screening, Meridian’s Arts and Culture curators offered informal tours of the Style in Silk exhibit, which tied into the larger theme of the evening: China. Education, Education, a documentary by Director Weijun Chen and Producer Don Edkins and part of the international WHY POVERTY? project, focuses on the struggles of the average poor-to-lower-middle class Chinese students who aim to attend university to secure a better future for themselves and their families. The hour-long documentary was followed by a thoughtful discussion moderated by Meridian’s Senior Vice President for Arts and Cultural Programs, Dr. Curtis Sandberg, and featured remarks by speaker Frank Neville, Chief of Staff at George Mason University and former career diplomat with postings throughout China.
