Meridian International Center signed a historic agreement with the China International Culture Association to promote bilateral cultural programs between the US and China. Signed by Vice Minister of Culture for the People’s Republic of China, Mme. Zhao Shaohua, and Meridian’s President and CEO, Ambassador Stuart Holliday, the shared objective in signing the memorandum was to formalize the collaboration of the organizations and countries, and promote further exchanges through the arts.
“We believe that cultural exchange is one of the most effective vehicles to enhance the friendship between our two people and understand our respective cultures,” Vice Minister Zhao said during the signing ceremony. “Meridian International Center is a prestigious organization with a good reputation for bridging cultures.”
Meridian and the China International Culture Association will collaborate in developing and implementing programs ranging from the visual, performing, and culinary arts to related forums, lectures, and training courses, over the next five years.
These efforts will build on past initiatives that have helped to strengthen the relationship between the U.S. and China. Most recently, Meridian and Ren Jian Ci Hua Company of Jingdezhen, China, with support from the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, joined to curate a unique Chinese porcelain painting exhibition at Meridian International Center’s Cafritz Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public, and will be on display until January 15th.
