This project for journalists, media professionals, government officials and educators who teach and research social media sought to examine trends in social media, online platforms, civil society development and highlight the U.S. commitment to the free exchange of ideas as well as government transparency and accountability. Twenty-two participants from twenty-one different countries sought to explore the ways in which social media and online platforms are used to connect communities and civil society groups around the world. The project included stops in Washington, DC; New York, New York; Boston, Massachusetts; Indianapolis, Indiana; Kansas City, Missouri; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Los Angeles; California.
