Listening Session with Ambassador-designate Matthew G. Whitaker

As part of its 65-year mission of fostering diplomatic dialogue, Meridian International Center was proud to host Ambassador-designate Matthew Whitaker for a listening session with ambassadors of NATO member countries ahead of his forthcoming confirmation hearing before the United States Senate. The meeting, held under Meridian House Rule, allowed for allies to share their perspectives on the key strategic factors facing the Alliance. Participants stressed the importance of America's leadership in NATO, the force multiplier effect of the Alliance, and the ongoing collective commitment to increased burden sharing.

Matthew G. Whitaker was nominated by President Donald J. Trump to serve as U.S. Permanent Representative on the Council of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on November 20, 2024. He was previously acting Attorney General of the United States 2018-2019 and was appointed as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa by President George W. Bush, serving from 2004-2009.
