In June of 2017, Meridian welcomed the first of five Gold Star alumni, Ms. Riham Adel of Egypt, for a two week program that connected her with resources from her first International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), "A New Beginning: Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation". Since its conclusion in 2012, Ms. Adel has built on the success of her recruitment and human resources consultancy company, Job Nile, by expanding it to Halle, Germany with the help of a fellow IVLP alum and recruiting more professionals to support companies in Egypt. Job Nile has also worked closely with the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, which has provided additional financial support to help organize an annual employment fair to connect the local community to thousands of job opportunities. Outside of Job Nile, Ms. Adel offers her expertise to young entrepreneurs and sits on the board of several organizations that empower female entrepreneurs to develop their own ideas and companies.
Ms. Adel's return to the United States included visits to Washington, DC; San Diego, CA; Dallas, TX; and Kansas City, MO. While in Washington, Ms. Adel met with representatives from the Hot Mommas Project at The George Washington University School of Business, BEACON: The DC Women Founders Institute, and the Office of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas, 30th District). She then flew on to San Diego, where she took part in a launch party for Girls in Tech, engaged with the Center for Creative Leadership, and visited the Hera Hub.
After an evening of home hospitality, Ms. Adel traveled to Dallas where she "reunited with Americans she met in 2012 and updated them on the continuing impact that their shared experience is having abroad" according to a State Department news release. Ms. Adel also presented on the IVLP's impact and answered questions from viewers via Facebook Live. Her final city stop was Kansas City, where she spoke at the Global Ties U.S. sponsored Diplomacy Begins Here Summit with the theme "Women's Empowerment: Economic Development and Entrepreneurship".
