The distinction between objective news and subjective opinion has increasingly blurred in the U.S. media landscape, as editorialists attempt to portray a neutral perspective while cultivating a loyal audience. Fox News Chief Political Anchor Bret Baier explored this topic, among many others, with a diverse group of high-level foreign diplomats, leaders from the private sector, philanthropists, and members of the arts and culture scene in Washington, DC. The interactive conversation covered key current events and topics, including the importance of education in democratic societies and the deep level of partisanship in the U.S. domestic political scene. Mr. Baier fielded a broad range of questions on these topics and provided cutting analysis on the most pressing issues of the day, while weaving in his professional and personal experiences.
Mr. Baier was joined onstage by Ambassador Stuart Holliday, President and CEO of Meridian International Center. The pair discussed key issues relating to the U.S. media landscape, the Trump Administration’s relationship with media outlets, prospects of various Democratic presidential candidates, and U.S. foreign and trade policy before turning to the audience for an extensive Q&A session.
The event, held on September 17, 2019 at Meridian House was a joint Insights @ Meridian and Entrée to Dialogue Salon series discussion mutually hosted by the Center for Diplomatic Engagement and the Global Leadership Council.
Mr. Baier is the host of “Special Report with Bret Baier” and has interviewed numerous high-level administration officials on the show, including President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Mr. Baier has extensive international experience, having visited 74 different countries during his time at Fox. Mr. Baier is an accomplished author, and his newest book is entitled Three Days at the Brink: FDR’s Daring Gamble to Win WWII and will be released on October 22, 2019.
