In May 2021, 49 journalists from 38 countries participated in the Combatting the Climate Crisis through U.S. Innovations Virtual Reporting Tour (VRT). Building on the success of last fall’s Elections 2020 VRT, Meridian continued to support the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Press Centers (FPC) in developing virtual programs to support international coverage of the United States while travel and in-person coverage is disrupted.
Since 2006, Meridian has supported FPC’s reporting tours and media-co-ops, implementing over 60 projects annually - on topics such as Indo-Pacific prosperity, Disinformation, Energy Security, and Media Literacy - that bring journalists from across the world to report from the United States.
The Combatting the Climate Crisis through U.S. Innovations Virtual Reporting Tour (VRT) included nine on-the-record press briefings with experts, analysts, and government officials on the following topics:
During the three-week reporting tour, journalists “traveled” to Washington, DC, Colorado, and Michigan to meet with experts and explore local efforts to combat climate change. Journalists had access through a virtual platform to exclusive content including an extensive library of exclusive interviews, B-roll, and still photographs to bring to life stories from each location and to gain insights into local energy projects being developed in the U.S.
The Combatting the Climate Crisis through U.S. Innovations VRT enabled journalists to examine U.S. efforts to promote international cooperation to develop and expand the availability of diverse traditional and alternative sources of energy. As a result of the tour, the journalists published a total of 135 stories for online, tv, print, and radio formats.
