Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Meridian Co-Host Seventh Annual Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Meridian International Center co-hosted their Seventh Annual Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration. The event was attended by hundreds of Washington’s top decision makers from the government, diplomatic, policy-making, business, and cultural communities, including Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Cui Tiankai; Ivanka Trump; Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney; The Honorable Ann Stock; Former Chief of Protocol Pete Selfridge; Ambassador Beatrice Welters; and NEA Chairman Jane Chu.

Guests enjoyed artist demonstrations of crafting traditional sugar sculpture, dough figurines, snuff bottle painting, paper cutting, and calligraphy, before settling in to the evening’s performances. The acts included straw hat throwing, an ensemble of traditional Chinese music, and Beijing opera, among others.
