Capacity Building for Legislative Staffers

  • To interact with legislative aides at federal, state, and local levels to observe and understand their roles and responsibilities;
  • To address the impact of transparent, accountable and professional policy making and policy implementation, particularly with regards to the role that young professionals play in the process;
  • To be exposed to the U.S. legislative, executive and electoral process at various levels of government;
  • To explore the use of research and policy specialists in the development of legislation;
  • To observe how legislative staff members provide constituent services of all types;
  • To speak to representatives of both major U.S. political parties about platform development, fundraising and campaign strategies in the election cycle; and
  • To examine the interaction between non-governmental organizations and congressional staff members on policy formulation.
