IVLP Impact Award Project: Cybersecurity Ninja: Educating Young People and Their Parents on How to Fight Cybersecurity Challenges

Through 12 workshops held in five Croatian cities, the project increased cybersecurity awareness and educated 384 people on current cybersecurity challenges and children's online safety. Workshop topics included the history of hacking, social engineering, cybersecurity threats on social media, and cyber hygiene. Experts from leading Croatian education and cybersecurity agencies discussed topics such as cyberbullying and online abuse; and encouraged youth to pursue careers in cybersecurity.

Vlatka also shared insights on the Impact Award grant process as a panelist for the IVLP Impact Awards Alumni Discussion Series panel, “Alumni Spotlight,” which you can read more about here.

"This workshop was such a success; it was so great to see the children engage in the topic. It’s different when they hear something from the experts in a certain field rather than hearing the same topic from their teachers." - Project Participant

IVLP Exchange Experience

Vlatka participated in the IVLP Project Promoting Cybersecurity II, organized by the U.S. Department of State and the American Councils for International Education, in partnership with GlobalAustin, San Antonio Council for International Visitors, GlobalPittsburgh and the U.S. Department of State Office of International Visitors program branch in New York City.

Vlatka's exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project; "My IVLP experience gave me an insight on the approach of the United States to education in the cybersecurity field. It was very interesting to see how many young people are involved in cybersecurity projects and how universities support and fund such projects."
