Dr. Kheradpir joined Barclays in 2011. In his current role as Chief Operations and Technology Officer, he has overall responsibility for the centralized technology and operations divisions, which comprises nearly half of Barclays’ workforce. Among the first in the industry to identify “consumerization of technology” – where people rather than businesses drive innovation in the 21st-century market – Dr. Kheradpir has successfully created cultures centered on the consumer experience and the need for innovation. Beginning his communications career with GTE Laboratories in 1987, he became Vice President of the company in 1994, directing its Software Systems Lab. Moving to Verizon Telecom in 2000, he led all the IT initiatives for the company’s Wireline communications unit as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. He also oversaw the development and implementation of the systems for the company’s all-fiber network – FiOS. In January 2007, he became the Executive Vice President, Chief Technical Officer and CIO for Verizon Communications. A member of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology, Dr. Kheradpir also appears in CIO Magazine’s Hall of Fame. He was Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts; holds several U.S. patents; and a PhD degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, New York.
