IVLP Impact Award Project: Career Awareness Project: Inspiring and Empowering the Youth in Uganda to Pursue Careers in Science and Technology

The project showcased the various career options in STEM fields and encouraged more individuals, especially those from underrepresented communities, to pursue careers in such fields. The project increased awareness and understanding of science and technology career options by providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse options available to them and encouraged interest in science and technology by highlighting the exciting and innovative work being done in these fields. Program activities included a hackathon competition, practical demonstrations, and mentoring.

Through her Ideathon event and in-person STEM training, Priscilla reached 31 participants across 13 different institutions. At the end of the project, 96% of survey respondents shared that they were inspired to study a STEM subject or pursue employment in a science or technology field. The other 4% expressed interest in project management careers.

“It was extremely practical. We all participated in idea development, we did some programming and am excited about what I will do next. I got a mentor who will guide me, and I hope to make this work as I take a step into data science.” – Project Participant

IVLP Exchange Experience

Priscilla was a participant in the IVLP Project Hidden No More: Empowering Women Leaders in STEM, organized by the U.S. Department of State and FHI 360.

Priscilla's exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project: "My IVLP experience was incredibly rewarding as it provided an opportunity to engage with several participants who are doing amazing work in their communities...They did not stop at overcoming their challenges but are ensuring that others following their footsteps will have an easier career path in STEM fields. This inspired me to do the same."
