Pedro Cédemé works as a volleyball coach and sports manager in several schools in Port-au-Prince. He is involved with Dreamers, a sports program that offers volleyball and basketball as extracurricular activities to local students. Pedro also leads an association of athletes, Ami Kal Group/Trezò Lokal, which organizes championships and tournaments in several cities in Haiti.
Born and raised in Petit Goave, Haiti, Pedro is committed to teaching young children and adolescents about sports and how they shape personalities and leaders for tomorrow.
The Community School Sports Project (Projet Communautaire Sportif Ecolier - PCSE) is an initiative focused on promoting peace, collaboration, service, and commitment in the city of Petit Goâve. Young people, adolescents, and children will be reintroduced to sporting activities through a school sports entrepreneurial competition. The project includes workshops, training events, and sporting activities, encourages civic engagement, and promotes awareness of social issues and responsible citizenship among students. It also emphasizes the importance of mentoring and guiding schoolchildren toward positive paths. The project's slogan, "I play, I get involved, and my community flourishes!" perfectly encapsulates the goal of the PCSE: using sports to re-engage youth, strengthen community bonds, and revitalize Petit Goâve.
Pedro modified his project timeline to start on October 25th and ending in December. Nathan Laguerre, lawyer and specialist in sports legislation and Salomé Tally, professional women's football coach, will present during the first workshop. Pedro shared his project on social media and received many requests to share the project with youth. Follow the project’s progress: https://www.instagram.com/pcsehaiti/
Pedro was also a panelist for the IVLP Impact Awards Alumni Discussion Series panel on “Sports Diplomacy: The Power of Play” which you can read more about here.
Pedro participated in the IVLP Project Youth and Civic Engagement, organized by the U.S. Department of State and Meridian International Center, in partnership with WorldOrlando, WorldBoston, International House, and Global Ties Akron.
Pedro’s exchange experience led to the development of his IVLP Impact Award project: “Participating in IVLP helped me strengthen my belief about being involved in my community to help the youth develop their full potential. One of the quotes I remember from the DC Office of Youth Programs and Marion Barry Leadership Institute visit was, ‘As a young person you must be on the negotiating table. And if you are not there yet, you have to keep hitting the door.’ I am a firm believer of pushing through the obstacles and that means being at the table sometimes requires for you to keep knocking. I aspire to do just that!”
