This project empowered local youth to become agents of change and curb gender-based violence in the Nigerian state of Imo. The project helped prevent and combat gender-based violence among young people in the region by creating a safe space to discuss and reassess solutions to develop a violence-free social environment.
A total of 610 students, teachers, and volunteers across 2 schools participated in discussions on how to curb gender-based violence in their communities. The discussions provided young women with the knowledge needed to fight back against violence they may face. After-school clubs were established to create a safe space for students facing the challenges of gender-based abuse and violence. Informational materials generated at the discussions were shared with other regional schools to reach a wider audience.
Ogechi participated in the IVLP Project NGO Management, organized by the U.S. Department of State and World Learning in partnership Global Ties Arizona, Colorado Springs World Affairs Council, Global New Orleans, San Antonio Council for International Visitors and Cleveland Council on World Affairs.
