Ms. Michelle Angela Ortiz is a visual artist and community arts educator based in Philadelphia. As a highly skilled muralist, Ortiz has designed and created over 50 large-scale public works nationally and internationally. Through painting, printmaking, and community arts practices, she creates a safe space for dialogue around some of the most profound issues communities and individuals may face. From December 2015 to April 2016, Ortiz has worked closely with local artists and community members in Havana to create a public mural in the borough of Regla. Since 2008, Ortiz has led community building and art for social change public art projects as a Cultural Envoy for the U.S. Department of State in Argentina, Fiji, Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, and Honduras. She also has led independent public art projects in Ecuador, Costa Rica and Puebla, Mexico.
