Lujain Elaujalli specializes in stabilization and conflict management. She currently works for the United Nations Development Program in the field of advocacy and the international peacebuilding. Lujain is also a legal researcher at Leiden University in the Netherlands on national reconciliation in Libya and exploring the shortcomings of the legal system to assess Libyan legislation in the post-revolution phase. In cooperation with the United Nations Training Institute, Lujain has facilitated specialized training courses to increase capacity and efficiency of civil society organizations in various parts of Libya.
The project will prepare a leadership corps of 30 female university graduates, first-time job seekers and vulnerable groups including internally displaced persons, migrants and returnees, who have a passion for technology and a curiosity for learning. A series of training workshops, simulations, and videos to promote gender equality in technology education will be conducted to create a more inclusive environment for young women and empower them to achieve their full potential.
So far, Lujain has held workshops on Project Management, Programming Basics, Network Fundamentals, and Back-end Development, allowing 30 participants to actively engage in team projects and apply their new skills.
Participants also visited Tanmia 360, a leading civil society organization in Libya, to learn about project management, financial support, and the role of women in civil society. This visit exposed the participants to role models and real-world examples of successful women in the sector, empowering them to envision their own leadership potential and gain valuable tools for future projects. The project sparked deeper conversations about economic empowerment and financial independence, with many participants actively seeking advice on project management and career development. The university's official page promoted the project, and, as Lujain stated, further "raising awareness and establishing a culture of empowering women to build a more integrated and comprehensive society.”
Lujain participated in the IVLP Project Women Leaders - Promoting Peace and Security, organized by the U.S. Department of State and World Learning, in partnership with Utah Global Diplomacy, WorldChicago, and WorldOrlando.
Lujain’s exchange experience led to the development of her project: “I benefited from the experiences presented by women who helped others achieve success. Our meeting with Ms. Anna Eskamani, a member of the Florida House of Representatives, encouraged us to be convinced of the idea that a person can be a leader, regardless of [their] race or origin.”
