This project raised awareness about the severity of human trafficking issues in Malaysia through a series of two-hour educational workshops for more than 1,500 participants. The workshops inspired students and community members to share information about locations suspected of engaging in sexual assault and human trafficking. Five skilled volunteers, including a doctor and a martial arts practitioner, were recruited to sustain and expand the initiative. The project also promoted the use of the Be My Protector app, empowering community members to contribute to the safety of the larger community by reporting suspicious activities related to abuse and human trafficking. Strategic collaboration with Malaysian influencer Nadira (@nadiraisaac) in an educational workshop increased visibility and interest in the programming, amplifying the project's reach and influence.
Kelvin participated in the IVLP Project Anti-TIP Systems in the United States organized by the U.S. Department of State and Meridian International Center in partnership with World Affairs Council of Las Vegas and International Citizen Diplomacy of Los Angeles.
Kelvin's exchange experience led to the development of his IVLP Impact Award Project: "There are two major things that I took from my IVLP experience. The first is how grassroots [movements] played a role in creating actionable awareness, which eventually became state policies...The second, is [how] trauma-informed awareness led to how victims of human trafficking are [now] treated. This made me think through how [I can] make awareness [in a way that is] practical and actionable. "
