Julio Cardenas studied mechanical engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, received his Master's in Business Administration from the Universidad del Pacífico, a Master's Degree in Marketing from the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, and earned his post-doctorate degree in Administration from the Universidad Nacional del Callao. Julio has worked for the last 27 years in the higher education sector, with previous experience in the industries of metalworking, chemicals and food. He is passionate about youth education and is currently leading a Peruvian College called ELITEC whose main objective is to provide the highest standard level of technological education.
The project developed a training program on computational thinking, with emphasis on block-based programming language, under a STEAM methodology approach, for 40 students ages 13 to 16. Students applied what they learned and constructed a video game that sought a solution to a social problem in their community. At the end of the program, students formed a School Innovation Club.
Julio participated in the IVLP Project U.S. Community Colleges, organized by the U.S. Department of State and World Learning in partnership with the San Antonio Council for International Visitors and Gulf Coast Diplomacy.
Julio's exchange experience led to the development of his IVLP Impact Award Project: "The IVLP experience made it possible to recognize how academic initiatives in the United States are closely linked to the business and government sectors."
