John Phipps is the Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Asia Pacific, South Asia and Latin America. S&P Global is the world’s foremost provider of ratings, benchmarks and analytics in the global capital and commodity markets. John supports corporate as well as S&P Global’s business divisions: S&P Global Ratings, which provides credit ratings, research and insights; S&P Global Platts, which provides independent energy news and benchmark prices for commodity markets around the world; S&P Dow Jones Indices, the world’s largest resource for iconic and innovative indices; and, S&P Global Market Intelligence, which provides information and insights about industries, companies, markets, supply chains and data.
As the head of government affairs and public policy, he is responsible for policy and regulatory issues and engagements with governments, regulators and other stakeholders. He works closely with the business divisions and corporate functions to develop strategies for engaging governments on policy matters and issues of interest to the company. He also serves as the principal liaison with foreign embassies and multilateral institutions.
John has extensive professional work experience in government affairs, international business development, corporate relations and public policy. He previously worked for several multinational companies as head of international government affairs. Based in the Asia Pacific region, he was responsible for overseeing engagements with governments and supporting business development. Earlier in his career, he worked in project finance and strategic planning for a major Japanese integrated trading and investment business conglomerate.
