YLAI Professional Fellows Program, Class of 2016

Jairo Alejandro Angel is the co-founder of Civilization, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving water infrastructure and sanitation in communities with poor access to these services. They train local people to construct, operate, and manage water services in their places. Jairo founded Civilization with three colleagues trying to give solutions to the water crisis in the Colombia by considering alternative water source systems, safe water storage, renewable energy sources for treatment and pumping, and sanitation options. Jairo is a professor at the Universidad Javeriana Cali, having special interest in water treatment and distribution. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy.
