Hussein Ali Gesey is a Somali freelance writer, journalist, and author with a passion for telling stories about social justice, human rights and environmental issues. Hussein's journalism and narrative non-fiction work have been published in newspapers, magazines, and online platforms, including The Royal TV, RTN Somali TV, Five Somali TV, Arlaadi News TV and Radio and M24 Somali TV. Hussein has written articles focusing on key issues in the Somali regions. He has experience creating journalistic content for a wide variety of formats, including video content for platforms such as Youtube and TikTok.
IVLP Impact Award Project: Empowering and Capacity Building for Local Journalists in Banadir, Bay and Lower Shabelle Regions.
This project addressed disadvantages faced by Somali journalists. The project trained 30 journalists to on how to improve their reporting skills and diversify their reporting perspectives. The training also highlighted the need to support the skills of female journalists in the region and enhance their professional careers.
Hussein participated in the IVLP Project Journalism Covering Politics in Conflicts Zones, organized by the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State Office of International Visitors program branch in New York City.
Hussein's exchange experience led to the development of his IVLP Impact Award Project: "With the information I received from IVLP, I am now able to share my knowledge and experience to organize fellow journalists."
