Heather Florance is the Founder and Chair of the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden Dedicated to the First Ladies of the United States at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. In this role, she spearheaded efforts to engage First Ladies Mrs. Michelle Obama, Mrs. Laura Bush, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Mrs. Barbara Bush, Mrs. Nancy Reagan, and Mrs. Rosalynn Carter to serve as Honorary Chairs of the Healing Garden. She also served on the Board of the DC's Children’s Hospital Foundation.
In 2025, Heather was appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to the Board of Visitors of George Washington’s Mount Vernon. She also serves on the Board of The Friends of Washington Statue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and preserving the George Washington statue in London’s Trafalgar Square—a historic gift from the Commonwealth of Virginia to Great Britain, symbolizing the enduring relationship between the two nations.
Earlier in her career, Heather held positions at the American Stock Exchange in both Washington, D.C., and New York City, before joining the international trade consulting division of Mayer, Brown & Platt in Washington. She later spent seven years engaged with advance and special projects for the Office of the First Lady of the United States.
A graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, Heather lives with her husband, Andy, and their two children in Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
