The project supported children from refugee and asylum-seeking families in Armenia, providing a positive and safe environment for their learning and development. A series of 40 “Fun Days” included recreational activities, entertainment, and homework support. The project also provided parental training and support. Through two, two-day training sessions, 40 parents were equipped to better navigate the challenges of raising children in a new country. Training sessions shared knowledge on topics such as child rights, Armenia’s Child Protection System, and practical positive parenting behaviors.
Hasmik participated in the IVLP Project Armenia: Responses to Refugee and Migration Issues, organized by the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education, in partnership with Georgia Council for International Visitors, GlobalAustin and Global Ties Sacramento.
Hasmik's exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project: "The meetings at Global Ties Sacramento with Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences Patrick Marius Koga on refugee mental health and with Faith Galati, Executive Director of Breakthrough Sacramento, on refugee youth support, inspired me for this project."
