The project empowered 85 young journalists with knowledge to raise the quality of reporting and contribute to the improvement of news content in Cabo Verde. Through an immersive five-day investigative journalism training program that included expert-led workshops and hands-on sessions, participants gained skills necessary to promote transparency, accountability, and democratic values in media.
Evelise participated in the IVLP Project Transparency and Accountability in Government, organized by the U.S. Department of State and FHI 360, in partnership with International Institute of Buffalo, Utah Global Diplomacy, and World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth.
Evelise’s exchange experience led to the development of her project: “During my IVLP experience, I had the opportunity to visit various cities in the United States. One of the key contacts who greatly influenced and inspired my project proposal was my colleague and investigative journalist from Mozambique, Rui Lamarques. Rui is the leader of the Media Lab project, which aims to train young individuals in investigative journalism. Drawing from the experiences and insights gained during my IVLP journey, particularly from interactions with Rui and learning about the successful implementation of Media Lab in Mozambique, I am motivated to adapt and implement a similar initiative in Cabo Verde. This is especially pertinent considering the significant gap between journalism education and practical application in Cabo Verde, with investigative journalism being particularly underdeveloped.”
