This project created multiple campaigns to raise awareness of human trafficking taking place in the border areas of the Sesheke district in Zambia. The campaigns included distribution of informational booklets and brochures to communities and schools highlighting different trafficking situations and explaining what human trafficking is, who can be trafficked, the forms of trafficking, how to identify situations of trafficking, how to report cases and the role of the community in prevention. Drama groups were used to bring community members to listen these important messages.
In total, 34 project participants were trained to distribute the informational manuals into schools and government offices to share knowledge on how to identify human trafficking and how to report cases. District social welfare officers also offered psychosocial services and free family therapy sessions with former human trafficking victims and set up a support group. Local communities were equipped with the knowledge to identify and prevent human trafficking from taking place.
Eve participated in the IVLP Project Combating Trafficking in Persons organized by the U.S. Department of State and Meridian International Center, in partnership with WorldDenver, Global Minnesota, San Antonio Council for International Visitors, and WorldOregon.
Eve's exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project: "I talked to over 500 people and distributed all the 750 comic books, brochures and booklets that I carried to the project district. The response from the communities I visited was so overwhelming."
