Elizabeth Hart Thompson joined The Coca-Cola Company’s federal and diplomatic team in March 2021 after nearly two decades of experience in Washington, including as a Chief of Staff on Capitol Hill and as a multiclient lobbyist. She handles tax, trade and China-related issues for Coca-Cola.
Elizabeth began her career on Capitol Hill with Representative Baron Hill (D-IN), a prominent member of the Blue Dog Coalition and the Energy & Commerce Committee. She then went on to be the Legislative Director and later Chief of Staff for Representative Melissa Bean (D-IL), where she was integral in helping secure passage of the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) as well as inclusion of key provisions in The Dodd-Frank Act in response to the 2008 Financial Crisis. As Chief of Staff to Representative John Carney (D-DE), Elizabeth helped build bipartisan consensus on and off the Hill, including on legislation relating to Dodd-Frank implementation as well as spearheading a successful, year-long effort to pass of one of the only fixes to the Affordable Care Act ever passed by Congress in 2014, over the objections of the Obama Administration.
During her tenure on the Hill, both Representative Bean and Carney served in leadership roles in the pro-trade, pre-growth New Democrat Coalition. In her role as Chief to both Members, Elizabeth was key in shaping the policy development, political strategy, and overall execution of the New Democratic Coalition’s mission. As a multiclient lobbyist, Elizabeth worked on a broad range of issues—primarily focusing on health care and financial services—and represented Fortune 500 companies as well as grassroots organizations.
A Midwestern native, Elizabeth graduated with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and master’s degree from Middlebury College.
