Drew Maloney is President and CEO of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. EEI is a trusted voice and strong advocate for its members, which operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and provide the safe, reliable, and affordable energy that drives the nation’s economy and powers the lives of nearly 250 million Americans.
Prior to joining EEI, Maloney served as President and CEO of the American Investment Council (AIC), an advocacy and resource organization that represents the private equity and credit industry. At AIC, Maloney successfully led multiple initiatives to secure favorable tax and regulatory treatment for the private equity industry.
Before AIC, Maloney was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Legislative Affairs. In this role, he was the principal liaison between the Treasury Department and Congress, and he worked on a range of major issues, including the passage of the first major tax reform effort in more than three decades, financial services reform, foreign investment reforms, trade policy, and sanctions. Maloney received the Treasury Department’s Distinguished Service Award for his achievements and leadership.
Prior to Maloney’s appointment to the Treasury Department, he served as a corporate officer and Vice President of Government and External Affairs for Hess Corporation, a global independent energy company. While at Hess Corporation, Maloney led international, federal, and state government affairs; communications; corporate social responsibility; and sustainability. He also led efforts to repeal the crude export ban that was adopted in 1975 and helped navigate complex energy issues in France, Libya, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Ghana.
Earlier in his career, Maloney was CEO of Ogilvy Government Relations, a prominent bipartisan government affairs firm. He was a founder of the advocacy firm that was purchased by Ogilvy (a WPP company).
Maloney is recognized as a leading global government affairs expert, with more than 25 years of experience in both the public and the private sectors. He has held senior positions for several Members of Congress, including members of the House Leadership. He also served as a senior advisor to several presidential campaigns and advised on presidential transition efforts for legislative affairs.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Randolph-Macon College and a J.D. from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law.
Maloney is active in his community. He serves as Vice Chair of Meridian International Center’s Board of Trustees and is a member of the Washington gold chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization. Maloney also serves on the Board of Directors of Trystar, a power solutions company. He previously served on the Board of EllieMae, the leading cloud-based platform provider for the mortgage industry. He also served on D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Financial Services Regulatory Sandbox and Innovation Council, as a member of the Board of Trustees at Randolph-Macon College, and on the presidentially appointed Board of Trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars within the Smithsonian Institution.
