2022 IVLP Impact Award Project: Promoting Cyber Security for SeniorsNigeria

Confidence Staveley is an award-winning cybersecurity professional, digital development enthusiast, author and entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience in technology. She believes that Africans, especially the most vulnerable, should have access to technology and be equipped with cyber-risk and mitigation strategies. Confidence recently facilitated CyberSafe Foundation’s collaboration with the UK government to implement a cybersecurity intervention in response to the heightened cyber-attacks during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Africa’s first afro-beats cybersecurity awareness song was released, reaching more than 10 million Nigerians with information about cybersecurity hygiene.

Through her organization, Cybersafe Foundation, Confidence launched The Sabi Toolkit, a Pan-African cybersecurity awareness tool that provides the the user with proactive preventive measures and practical steps to stay safe as they navigate the digital world. Confidence is also passionate about closing the gender gap in technology and has launched two initiatives to address it: DigiGirls and CyberGirls.

IVLP Impact Award Project: Promoting Cyber Security for Seniors

This project delivered relatable and educational cyber awareness video content to seniors and  promoted use of the Sabi Toolkit – the first truly Pan-African cybersecurity awareness toolkit. Three educational videos for a mini-series based on the toolkit were created in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. The mini-series premiered across various platforms and  has reached thousands of people. One of the videos, ‘Hattara Dai’,  was filmed in an indigenous Nigerian language, and promoted cyber awareness in the Northern, more rural parts of Nigeria.
