This project was a collection of grassroots sessions, campaigns and other activities for community stakeholders on the importance of educating young girls. The stakeholder trainings included traditional rulers, village chairmen, councilors, town union chairmen, youth leaders, local government chairmen, coordinators of development centers, religious leaders and market women leaders. An initial stakeholders sensitization meeting attracted 50 participants, and a following round-table discussion had 70 participants. Twenty school-based staff from 10 area schools were trained to monitor the gender gap in enrollment. A "girls club" was formed at participating schools, and vocational training and supplies were provided to support the re-enrollment of girls who had left school.
Chinwe participated in the IVLP Project: Women in Politics and Civil Society IRPEUR/NEA/AF, organized by the U.S. Department of State and Meridian International Center in partnership with the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy, WorldDenver, World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana, Global Minnesota, GlobalJaxville and Lincoln Council for International Visitors.
Chinewe's exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project: "My participation in this project has revealed the challenges that young girls are going through in order to acquire education. I am honored to lead the campaign in addressing these challenges."
