2022 IVLP Impact Award Project: Support for Women and Children with Albinism in NigerNiger

Aminatou Seydou Allakaye is the president of Well Being Woman and Child, an organization which supports orphaned children, widows and other people of vulnerable populations in Niger. She also organizes fundraisers on social networks to raise additional funds to help orphaned children.

IVLP Impact Award Project: Support for Women and Children with Albinism in Niger

This project trained women with albinism in leadership and entrepreneurship, to better enable them to integrate into their community. The project also provided specialized glasses for children with albinism, who frequently have vision problems. A total of 80 people living with albinism were trained to be socially and financially independent, safe and secure.

This project was one of the first of its kind in the community. The workshops were open-hearted exchanges of very real experiences of the participants, offering a system of comfort, motivation, and inspiration for the group. The development trainings strengthened the skill sets of participants and prepared them to enter the workforce and other parts of society more fully.

IVLP Exchange Experience

Aminatou participated in the IVLP Project Ending Gender-Based Violence in 2021, organized by the U.S. Department of State and World Learning in partnership with Vermont Council on World Affairs, WorldBoston, International Focus, Inc. and Global New Orleans.

Her exchange experience led to the development of her IVLP Impact Award Project: "This was the best online experience. I have met many people from various backgrounds and thanks to IVLP and Meridian the lives of people living with albinism will change."
