With a diplomatic career spanning over three decades, Ambassador Navtej Sarna has been an active participant in Indian politics since 1980. He began his career as a probationer for the Indian Foreign Service and he has since held a multitude of positions with the Embassy of India and the Ministry of External Affairs, including Ambassador of India to Israel and High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom. In 2016, he was appointed as Ambassador of India to the United States.
Outside of diplomacy, Ambassador Sarna is a notable author and columnist. His first publication, Folk Tales of Poland, was released in 1991. Most recently in 2015, Ambassador Sarna published Second Thoughts: On Books, Authors and the Writerly Life. The collection of essays explores literature and travel, while set in major cities throughout the Middle East, Asia, and Russia. He also contributes regularly to the Times Literary Supplement from the UK, in addition to several Indian journals.
