IVLP Impact Award Project: Working Group Data Literacy - Workshop Data Journalism Training of Trainers

This program increased journalists’ understanding of open data sources that can be used to write news stories. Fifteen local, national, and international journalists from the Aceh Environmental Journalists Forum were trained to become facilitators of the Data Literacy Workshop Group in Aceh, Indonesia.

The training encouraged further collaboration between journalists, media, and data owners in developing data-based coverage and providing better public access to information. Participants received mentorship and guidance from data journalism experts. Due to the success of the project, there are now plans to establish data journalism courses at local universities in Aceh.

"Before I took this training, I thought that data journalism was the same as any journalistic product. After I joined, it turned out to be quite different and I just realized that in fact Data Journalism is a product of eternal journalism, whenever it is worth reading and surviving until the end of the world" -Training Participant
