Meridian International Center was honored to host Prime Minister of the United Kingdom the Honorable Theresa May in 2004 as a participant in the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
Ms. May’s program, the British American Parliamentary Group (BAPG), pairs a member of the British Parliament with a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Members of Parliament shadow the Congressmen and Congresswomen in Washington, DC and in their home districts. In 2004, Ms. May was paired with Representative Gil Gutknecht and traveled to Minnesota for events and meetings with the Congressman. In June 2016, Meridian hosted yet another IVLP for British Parliamentarians. As part of the 2016 program, the Parliamentarians had the opportunity to shadow several U.S. Members of Congress, Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), Congressman Charlie Dent (R-PA), Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) and Congressman John Shimkus (R-IL).
Meridian has hosted 172 current and former heads of state as members of IVLP delegations. We are proud to add Theresa May to this distinguished list.
