On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, Meridian International Center partnered with the Office of Chief of Protocol to host the "Power of Diplomacy", a celebration of Meridian’s invaluable role in promoting diplomacy and advancing effective global leadership around the world. Attendees of this dynamic program were addressed by Dr. Jill Biden, Second Lady of the United States, President and CEO of Meridian International Center Ambassador Stuart Holliday, and Deputy Chief of Protocol Natalie Jones.
Consistent with Meridian’s success in bringing global leaders together, The Power of Diplomacy program emphasized that Meridian is committed to fulfilling its role as home for diplomacy and dialogue in Washington. Referring to the polarization and conflict taking place around the world, Ambassador Holliday reiterated the importance of leaders coming together to collaborate on solutions to pressing issues and challenges facing their countries and communities. Dr. Biden reminded the group that face-to-face engagement has real impact and called the group to action saying, "I believe that no matter the state of world affairs, we have to stay engaged. We have to be part of the conversation. We have to show up."
Within the historic Blair House, where Presidents have hosted foreign heads of state and dignitaries for decades, we cannot forget that diplomacy starts at home and it starts with each one of us.
