On July 30, 2015, Meridian hosted a reception to honor Embassy Social Secretaries and their valuable role in promoting diplomacy for their countries here in Washington and nationwide. Meridian was honored to include featured guest Deesha Dyer, Special Assistant to the President and White House Social Secretary, in this celebratory evening.
Ambassador Stuart W. Holliday, President and CEO of Meridian, gave welcoming remarks to the group which included The Honorable Ann Stock, Former White House Social Secretary (1993-1997) and representatives from over 25 foreign embassies in DC; and members of the media. In his remarks, Ambassador Holliday stressed that the work of the assembled organizations – Meridian, the U.S. Department of State, the White House, and the Diplomatic Corps of Washington – would not be possible without the expert input of social secretaries.
Ms. Dyer began working at the White House in 2009, at the age of 31, as an intern in the Office of Scheduling and Advance. Less than six years later, she was promoted to Special Assistant to the President and White House Social Secretary. In describing her role, Ms. Dyer spoke of her intention to keep the White House open and accessible not only to all Americans, but to the world. This goal is mirrored in the efforts of the social secretaries at Washington’s contingent of foreign embassies, and Meridian International Center applauds this critical mission and vision for a more collaborative world.
