Future of small and medium
businesses post-Brexit
With the UK’s formal exit from the EU looming, Prince Michael of Kent led a delegation of British small business advocates to Washington for a discussion at Meridian, in partnership with Intuit, on the tools and practices that form the favorable small business climate in the U.S. Cousin to Queen Elizabeth II and grandson of King George V, Prince Michael contributed to the creation of the Genesis Initiative decades ago when he realized small businesses had zero voice or support in the U.K. David Harvey, Genesis Consultant CEO, said the delegation learned how local knowledge of state and city governments can inform small business policies, as well as how to apply these lessons to their respective jurisdictions in the U.K. Read more about the discussion here.

U.S. – Sino stakes rise
ahead of G20 Summit
Days before the meeting between Presidents Trump and Xi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the Meridian Corporate Council hosted Minister Zhu Hong, the Minister of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, for a discussion on the current state of the relationship between the global superpowers. Zhu made the case that these regulations on China are damaging to both the U.S economy and their interests in China, pointing to the negative effects that the tariffs have on American workers and families, and further stressing the importance of businesses staying involved in the policy-making process. The G20 Summit meeting between the two leaders ultimately ended with a ceasefire in the ongoing trade war and demonstrated intent on both sides to reach to an agreement.
