Your responses to the Short Answer questions should explain your suitability for the position and relevant experience. They should demonstrate your passion for your discipline and describe how your past experiences have prepared you for this program, highlighting any examples that demonstrate your ability to show cultural sensitivity and engage others with different values or viewpoints. When writing your responses, consider sharing examples that illuminate how you embody authentic representation of your artform as well as how you contribute to the full diversity of the US. Please consider how your participation would promote U.S. history, culture, and values while incorporating the USA Pavilion theme of “Imagine What We Can Create Together.” Lastly, indicate your preferred style/format of programming (performances, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, master classes, and media engagements) to attract the interest and engagement of Expo visitors.

Work Samples

Work samples are critical to each application and are carefully considered by the review panel. Meridian strongly recommends that applicants pay close attention to the content of the work sample submissions. Audio-only recordings are acceptable, but at least one sample should be video (visual artists, culinary creatives, sport representatives, and writers please see below). Videos of live performances are preferred.

When creating and preparing work samples, Meridian recommends the following:

  • Test the viewing of your work samples. If you cannot view a work sample, it is unlikely the selection panel will be able to view it.
  • Select recent, high-quality samples. Carefully chosen work samples tend to make the biggest impact and create the strongest artistic impression. (e.g. live performances, a music video, and a workshop or other program with participants)
  • If your video work sample is longer than five minutes, please note where you would like panelists to begin viewing (e.g. 00:05:15).
  • Upload images as JPG files (less than 20MB) with a minimum resolution of 72dpi.
  • Label each work sample or document so it can be easily identified.
  • Provide all passwords or include any necessary information required to view your work sample, such as plug-ins or navigation paths.
  • A website is not a sufficient work sample. Links should be to a specific video or gallery of images.
  • Be sure that the links are fully functioning and accessible at least through the end of February 2025. A link to a website that containing your work sample that does not work will negatively affect your application.
  • Application materials should demonstrate your skill level and your ability to engage audiences.
To further assist you in submitting strong content, general suggestions are provided below by discipline.
