Empowering Economies: How the G7 is Leveraging AI for Sustainable Growth and Innovation

Event Details

Friday, November 15th, 2024

Italy's Presidency of the G7 emphasized the transformative role of AI in advancing economic growth and sustainable development, particularly in regions such as Africa. Through collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Italy is supporting the establishment of an AI Hub for Sustainable Development, which aims to equip African nations with tools to drive progress in agriculture, healthcare, and education. This initiative reflects Italy’s commitment to harnessing AI to create resilient economies, address social challenges, and build a foundation for sustainable growth. By focusing on ethical and inclusive AI practices, Italy aims to bridge the digital divide and support equitable development outcomes globally.

In partnership with Microsoft, Meridian will bring together members of the private sector and foreign diplomatic corps representing G7 countries for a discussion on Italy’s Presidency of the G7 and its focus on how digital innovation can foster greater economic growth and competitiveness, as well as the critical role that AI can play in strengthening sustainable development in the Global South. Her Excellency Fausta Bergamotto, Undersecretary of State at the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, will provide her insights on how Italy led the G7 on this initiative throughout its presidency.
