Development Fellowship
Position Title: Development Fellowship
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
Location: Washington, D.C.
Reports To: Development Coordinator
Purpose and Description
Meridian International Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan diplomacy center that connects leaders through culture and collaboration to drive solutions for global challenges. Founded 60 years ago, Meridian works with governments, the private sector and the diplomatic community to develop exchange, training, culture and convening programs to help leaders better address global challenges and opportunities.
Meridian’s Development Team is responsible for maintaining relationships with Meridian’s donors and corporate partners, cultivating development opportunities, fundraising, and producing cultural diplomacy programs. The Development Fellow responsibilities will often vary depending on the schedule of events.
The Development Fellow can expect to gain experience in donor relations, corporate research, fundraising, non-profit management, events and logistics, social media promotion, and database management.
Essential Functions
Research
- Conduct research on foundations, corporations, and individual prospects to assist with identifying funding sources;
- Research the current global interests/involvement of specific foundations and corporations to help assist in event matching;
- Research special projects and organize research information systematically;
- Provide administrative support to external affairs staff as needed.
Data Management
- Code event invitees and attendees and other relevant information in Meridian’s relationship management database, Salesforce
- Update constituent and contributor information in Salesforce
Events and Audience Management
- Assist in event planning and organizing for Meridian Council and Corporate Council programs;
- Support External Affairs staff with pre- and post-event database management;
- Help print, mail, and email invitations to Meridian hosted events;
- Assist in setup, staffing, and breakdown of events as needed.
Communications
- Generate content and writing program write ups for the Meridian website
- Support Social media outreach on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience/Education
The fellowship is best suited for an upperclassman student pursuing their undergraduate degree or graduate degree. Interest in International Relations preferred.
All applicants must:
- Commit 25-29 hours per week to the fellowship
- Be able to work on Mondays and either Thursday or Friday
- Preference will be given to candidates willing to commit to a year-long fellowship
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Interest in global issues and international affairs
- Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Comfort working in a diverse environment with people from all over the world
- Strong organizational and writing skills; superb attention-to-detail necessary
- Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize between short term and long-term projects
- Familiarity and comfort with online research and marketing tools
- Computer proficiency in Windows based applications including Microsoft Word and Excel is mandatory; knowledge of database management applications, such as Salesforce, is preferred
- Must show tact and discretion due to our constant engagement with high-level government, diplomatic, and business officials
- Proven initiative and strong interpersonal skills

Environment and Scheduling
- Meridian Fellows are limited to a maximum 29 hours per week
- Interest in working with an international not-for-profit professional exchange organization
- Interest in working within a diverse work environment
- Fellowship is from January to November/December
- Fellowship will be virtual for the first part of 2021 and then transition to in-person in Washington, DC.
This position is classified FLSA NON-EXEMPT.
