Application and Selection
Eligibility Requirements:
- Citizen and resident of Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
- Demonstrated record of least three years of professional growth in journalism and media.
- Are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
- Are not a U.S. government employee.
- Are proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Are eligible to receive a U.S. J-1 Visa.
All application documents must be submitted in English, including the following:
- Signed letter of recommendation from a current or former supervisor.
- Three (3) examples of recent journalism work.
Selection:
Successful applicants will demonstrate the following selection criteria:
- Demonstrated professional experience and knowledge in journalism and media.
- Demonstrated understanding of how their personal and professional goals align with program objectives.
- Commitment to supporting a network of Central Eastern European independent journalists and media outlets.
- Commitment to professional development, inclusive leadership, knowledge sharing, and mentorship.
- Professional level English language skills.
Preferred candidates:
- Demonstrate experience and interest in investigative journalism.
- Demonstrate regional diversity.
- Reside and work outside of their country’s capital city.
