As part of Meridian International Center’s Diplomacy at 250 series — a year‑long slate of programs marking the United States’ 250th anniversary and the global partnerships that have shaped our nation — we are proud to present America: An Unfinished Portrait, an exhibition by sculptor Zachary Oxman. Meridian serves as the International Resource Partner of the America250 initiative, convening international and American audiences around programs that foster connection, reflection, and shared understanding as foundational elements of diplomacy.

America: An Unfinished Portrait invites audiences to consider the nation’s history not as a fixed narrative, but as a living, evolving story shaped by perspective, memory, and time. Over the past decade, Oxman has developed an innovative visual language that merges diverse materials, technology, and optics to reframe portraits of figures central to the American story — from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln to Eleanor Roosevelt and the Statue of Liberty. These works blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture, prompting viewers to move, engage, and reflect — an artistic parallel to the active engagement that sustains democratic dialogue.
